On writing and keeping a notebook

For some time I have been fascinated with notebooks, in part for how we can document ideas and everyday happenings and make connections. This is an interesting article from Masokumi where the connection between the physical act of writing is discussed in the context of long-term creativity and productivity. One thing to note is that writing in this sense does not include things like our to-do lists or shopping lists that are of the moment. Others may judge differently.

Physically writing creates links between the spacial and verbal parts of the brain, and studies have shown that by some strange quirk of biology, the brain thinks that writing something is the same as if we were actually doing it. This is similar to how the practice of actively visualizing something can trick the brain into thinking it’s actually doing it.” [/quote]
