The Xyaat Ecotourism Cooperative developed a sustainable, responsible cultural and environmental tour in the town of Señor, 3 hours south of Cancún. Their intent was to attract small groups who wanted to learn about contemporary Mayan culture first-hand and afar from the tropes of the tourist zone. These postcards are part of a larger identity system that promotes a responsible appreciation of Mayan culture and traditional practices such as natural medicine, crafts, and history. Revealing real Mayans, their names, language, and practices embodies their agency and self-respect, transmitting this message to the viewer.
