la guantera (the glove box)

Tuesday morning i walked out my front door to find a bunch of stuff laying on my passenger seat and the door to the glove box (el aguantera) wide open. I suspect in the course of the day that I, or more likely, one of my friends, forgot to lock the door since there were no signs of forced entry. What was taken? My little change purse with $5 and my insurance book that had $20, just in case I was stopped by the cops. Kindly, whoever rifled through it left my registration, my $30 surge protector, and maps. Normally I don’t keep anything of value in the car – at least overnight. But this reminds me of the lessons my mother has taught me – some of which I have yet to learn.
